Top road cop on shocking new data revealing how many drivers are caught drunk on New Year’s Day

New data released by Victoria Police has revealed a shocking number of drivers drink-driving were caught in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Assistant commissioner of road policing Glenn Weir says the increasing number of drivers caught drunk behind the wheel since the pandemic has been concerning for the police.

“It’s blatant disregard for people’s safety, it’s them thinking ‘Oh she’ll be right’ … that’s just stupid and it’s unfortunately not unusual,” he told Heidi Murphy, filling in for Jacqui Felgate.
