‘Too simplistic’: Questions raised over controversial Airbnb tax
The true reason for continuing to tax Victorian Airbnb proprieties has been questioned as the opposition makes a commitment to make changes to the way rentals are taxed.
Opposition leader John Pesutto has pledged to scrap the tax under a state Coalition government, which is making renting Airbnb properties more cost prohibitive.
3AW Afternoons host Shane McInnes says the current logic around the tax is “too simplistic”, saying it was families who largely had to bare the extra cost when holidaying regionally.

The solution of (taxing) short stay accommodation to establish greater long term accommodation is too simplistic,” he said on 3AW.
“I’d argue (it’s) a guise simply to generate greater revenue for the government coffers.”
