Tony Jones reacts to leaked expletive-ridden video of rival newsreaders
Nine News sports presenter Tony Jones says he feels “desperately sorry” for rival 7 News Melbourne newsreaders Rebecca Maddern and Mike Amor, after footage of the pair slamming Novak Djokovic was leaked.
In the expletive-ridden footage, which emerged on social media last night, the world number one is labelled a “lying, sneaky a***hole”.
“There is a golden rule in radio and television that you always assume that the microphone is on. But I think in any industry it’s not unreasonable to also assume that any conversation you have … if it’s a private conversation, should remain that,” Tony Jones, who is filling in for Neil Mitchell, said.
“What Rebecca Maddern and Mike Amor were discussing and saying is probably no different to what many households and businesses around Australia have been discussing.
“I sincerely hope that whoever is responsible for leaking that is brought to justice.”
Seven Melbourne managing director Lewis Martin says an investigation into the illegal distribution of the footage “is going to be very, very thorough”.
“It’s been illegally recorded and it’s been illegally distributed, so I can assure you we won’t be leaving any stone unturned to find out how it’s happened,” he said.
