Tony Jones questions Georgie Purcell on fresh live baiting scandal to rock the greyhound racing industry
Tony Jones has questioned Animal Justice Party MP Georgie Purcell on the fresh live baiting scandal to rock the greyhound racing industry.
Ms Purcell is calling for an independent inquiry into Greyhound Racing Victoria and the industry as a whole, but the 3AW host thinks more needs to be done, labelling inquiries a “dime a dozen”.
“This is not the first time that I have spoken about live baiting occurring in the time that I’ve been in parliament,” Ms Purcell said.

The new scandal involves a Victorian dog trainer, who has been suspended amid allegations of luring and live baiting.
And the Animal Justice Party MP thinks the industry has been “smarter” in keeping quiet about live baiting still occurring in greyhound racing.
“I haven’t been quiet about the fact that I think greyhound racing has no place in Victoria or in our country,” she told Jones.
CEO of Greyhound Racing Victoria, Stuart Laing, then joined 3AW Drive later on in the day, saying he’s “furious” at the latest scandal, but claimed there’s no need for an inquiry.
“Just because someone in the industry, and any industry will have people who do the wrong thing, it doesn’t mean everyone is doing it and that’s why he have regulations, rules and a regulator,” Mr Laing told Heidi Murphy.
