Tony Jones and Robin Rothfield clash over ‘cruel’ new asylum seeker policy

Tony Jones has clashed with a refugee advocate over the federal government’s weekend announcement.

Malcolm Turnbull wants to ban all asylum seekers who arrive on boat from ever setting foot in Australia.

It’s left several human rights groups outraged.

‘It’s cruel, it goes against our international obligations and it’s unnecessary,’ Labor for refugees spokesperson Robin Rothfield said on 3AW Mornings.

But Tony Jones said ‘most’ Australians would support the government’s stance.
