Tom Mitchell wins the 2018 Brownlow Medal
Tom Mitchell is the 2018 Brownlow medallist.
The overwhelming favourite had the award sewn up with two rounds remaining.
Collingwood star Steele Sidebottom looked a chance to cause an upset midway through the count, however, the Hawk ball magnet finished strongly as expected to win the league’s highest individual honour.
Mitchell finished on 28 votes, ahead of Sidebottom on 24.
Angus Brayshaw stormed home to finish third on 21 votes.
Isaac Heeney won Mark Of The Year, with Jack Higgins winning Goal Of The Year.
Mitchell told 3AW Breakfast it was a surreal feeling to wake up with the medal.
“I just tried to go into the night with no expectations and fortunately for me the result went my way,” he said.
“It’s exciting to receive an award like this.”
