The Ashes Boxing Day Test next year in Melbourne is in jeopardy as the state government and Cricket Australia remain at a stand-off over the marquee sports event.

Tom Elliott has a theory on why there’s a stand-off and the Dean of Higher Education and Applied Research and Sport at Holmesglen Institute, Dr Sam Duncan, thinks the 3AW Mornings host is “close to the mark”.

Dr Duncan thinks a deal will eventually get done, saying it would be “disastrous” if the state government loses the Boxing Day Test.

“I think there’s too much at stake for the Victorian government to be losing a much loved event,” he said.
