Tom Elliott has welcomed Jacinta Allan’s recent announcement on housing, but wonders whether the state has enough builders and money to construct several high-rise towers.

The state government announced on Sunday they were aiming to construct 30,000 new homes in several in-demand suburbs by 2051.

The 3AW Mornings host says as a result of material shortages and the government’s own Big Build projects, there may not be enough people to keep up with construction demands.

“A stamp duty cut is great – it’s like the government giving you money,” he said on 3AW.

“But you have to buy an newly-built off the plan dwelling, but someone has to build it.”

Shadow Planning Minister James Newbury says it didn’t make sense to concentrate the new high-rise residential towers to largely three council areas.

“I think we need to share the load,” he told Tom Elliott.
