Tom Elliott’s alternative way to honour football great Ron Barassi

Debate is continuing on how best to honour football great Ron Barassi.

It comes after reports suggest the premiership-winning captain will be awarded the Ron Barassi Medal as soon as this year, but Tom Elliott says there’s an even better way to acknowledge him.

“I don’t like the idea of a special medal just for being captain,” he said on 3AW Mornings.

“I agree with Mick Malthouse – I don’t mind the idea of giving the actual trophy a name (after Ron Barassi).”
