AFL CEO Andrew Dillon remains steadfast in his belief on the importance of Welcome to Country ceremonies before AFL finals, saying they set a “good tone” before big games.

A Welcome to Country ceremony before GWS v Brisbane a fortnight ago caused controversy, with Tony Jones believing it caused division.

When pressed by Tom Elliott about how the ceremonies are conducted, Dillon said the league’s view was there were an important part of pre-match.

“I think they really set a good tone,” he told Tom Elliott on 3AW Mornings.

“We’ll continue to do it and we’ve been doing it for a while.”
