Tom Elliott says Melbourne isn’t helping itself when it comes to attracting people back to the CBD post-lockdown.

He says the City of Melbourne and Victorian Government aren’t fixing the issues that need to be addressed.

The 3AW Drive host’s editorial was prompted by a weekend trip into the city.

“Clean up Elizabeth Street,” he said.

“Don’t put a drug injecting centre there.

“Get rid of graffiti.

“It just disturbs me that they keep talking about how we want to attract people back to the CBD but the obvious things to do, like cleaning up a really unsavoury part of the CBD, isn’t being done.

“If anything, it’s worse than ever.”

He also responded to reports the City Loop would be significantly disrupted next year for repair works.

“If there was ever a time to shut down the City Loop and fix it all up and do things that have to apparently be done … why wasn’t it done over the past couple of years?” he said, pointing out the lack of use due to lockdown.
