Tom Elliott has lashed out at the Australian Venue Co. for “corporate hypocrisy” over the pub group’s Australia Day snub next month.

Australia’s second-biggest pub group, which owns 200 pubs and bars around Australia, will not be celebrating or acknowledging Australia Day, and the 3AW Mornings host thinks it’s an “extraordinary” decision.

“It is hypocrisy writ large,” he said.

“If you’re thinking about having a beer on Australia Day, and plenty of people will, don’t go to the Australian Venue Co.” he said.

The 3AW Mornings host then listed some of the popular pubs in Melbourne which are owned by the pub group, and then spoke to a political marketing expert on the issue.

“To me it just doesn’t make any sense at all,” Dr Andrew Hughes, expert in political marketing from Australian National University, told Tom Elliott.
