Tom Elliott explains why the ADF shouldn’t be used in aged care
Tom Elliott says the Australian Defence Force should not be sent in to help with the country’s aged care crisis.
It comes after the Defence Minister said troops would be sent in, “if that’s what is required” to help.
The Prime Minister has since hosed down the idea, saying the ADF was not a “shadow” workforce.
Tom Elliott agrees.
“I know aged care is undergoing a crisis, but I don’t think bringing in the ADF is the right thing,” he said.
“The ADF has a lot of capability, but I don’t think its best use is going in and working in aged care, I really don’t.
“If there are problems in aged care, solve them.
“Remember, the ADF is supposed to be a fighting military force, and the more we try and get it to do jobs like patrolling parks during lockdowns and going into aged care homes, the less it will be good at its real job which is fighting wars.”
