Tom Elliott clashes with councillor over childcare claims
A City of Port Phillip councillor who claimed almost $7000 in childcare on ratepayers has defended the expenses on 3AW Drive.
It’s been revealed the council claimed $23,000 on child and family care.
Councillor Marcus Pearl told Tom Elliott it allowed him to be “the best possible councillor” he could be.
“We’re extremely privileged to get this allowance,” he said on 3AW Drive.
“The purpose of it is to provide a level playing field for everybody to get involved.”
However, Tom Elliott questioned what made councillors so special.
“This does not happen in the private sector,” he said.
“Very few bosses out there give you money to take care of your own kids.”
