Tom Elliott and NSW Greens Senator David Shoebridge have engaged in a heated argument on the topic of drug decriminalisation in Australia.

The Greens senator accused the 3AW Mornings host of delivering “right-wing hyperbole” and a “fear campaign” to his listeners on the topic, with Elliott telling Mr Shoebridge not to put words in his mouth!

“You are a rude and obnoxious person,” Elliott said as he abruptly ended the interview.

It comes as Australia receives a warning from Portland, Oregon in the United States, who implemented drug decriminalisation in 2020, not to go ahead with it after the American city rolled back the legislation in 2023 after rising drug use.

But Mr Shoebridge is adamant personal possession of drugs in Australia should not be a criminal offence, and should be treated as a health issue.
