Tom Boyd’s insightful thoughts on media scrutiny amid Harley Reid criticism

Tom Boyd has given his honest thoughts on the scrutiny AFL players face in the media, as Harley Reid cops criticism for his antics in the first two rounds of the season.
Boyd understands the pressure which comes with being a number one pick, and has come to the defence of the Eagles young gun.
“Given we’re two rounds in, he’s playing for a team that’s struggled for a long period of time, there’s a lot of water to go under the bridge and he’s clearly, clearly good enough to play at the top level,” Boyd said on Wide World of Sports.

“I will never shy away from the fact that AFL footballers should be critiqued for their football, but I think the line gets crossed at times when we start to be directly and deliberately antagonistic surrounding the integrity of players.”
3AW Football commentator Matt Granland admitted he’s in two minds of how the media has treated Reid, and played some audio of some different perspectives from both Caroline Wilson and Matthew Lloyd.
“I must admit I’m torn on this,” Granland said.
