Tim Lane marks incredible sports broadcasting milestone
Tim Lane says calling Cathy Freeman’s 400-metre final at the Sydney Olympics has been the highlight of his commentary career to date.
It’s 50 years, today, since Lane called his first sporting event – a football match between Devonport vs East Devonport in Tasmania.
The highly-respected broadcaster will mark the anniversary on 3AW Football tonight, leading the commentary team’s call of the clash between Port Adelaide and Western Bulldogs.
Lane told Neil Mitchell on Friday the gold medal Freeman won at the 2000 Olympics was his most memorable moment.
“Just the sense of thrill on that night, and fulfillment of being a witness to what happened and having the honour of calling that makes it the standout,” he said.
