People who contracted COVID-19 between 6pm last Friday and 6pm Tuesday will now get the opportunity to vote, after urgent changes to voting rules.

People who tested positive during that period and missed the window for postal voting were previously told they may be unable to vote.

The Electoral Commissioner this morning recommended the government change the regulation and extend the phone voting system. The government has adopted that recommendation.

“Anybody who tested positive after 6pm last Friday is going to be eligible for secure telephone voting,” state manager of the Australian Electoral Commission, Nye Coffee, told Neil Mitchell.
