Thomas Embling psychiatric hospital workers to walk off job
Workers at the Thomas Embling psychiatric hospital will walk off the job on Tuesday, amid a rising number of violent attacks.
Staff at the facility allege 468 physical incidents have occurred since April, ranging from hitting and spitting, to major criminal offences.
According to The Herald Sun, they’re marching on the office of Mental Health Minister Martin Foley to highlight their safety concerns.
Schoolgirl killer Sean Price is among the criminals housed at the facility.
Workers in the mental health sector are demanding better staff-to-patient ratios and a 16 per cent pay increase over the next four years.
The protest comes after calls froom the Health and Community Services Union for a second centre for mentally ill prisoners in Victoria.
