THIS WEEK IN FOOD – October 22
SMOKIN’ IN MELBOURNE: If you haven’t heard Ross and I bang on about Basque Spain’s Etxebarri, then you haven’t been listening hard enough. Well, Lennox Hastie is a charming Australian bloke who spent five years working there with Victor Arguinzoniz, only to eventually return and open Firedoor in Sydney to much acclaim. Well, he’s coming down here to join with Charlie Carrington at his new venture Atlas Dining for a special menu cooked over wood coalst. Monday 24th October – reservations via www.atlasdining.com.au
CHEESE BY THE SEA: Nothing to do this Sunday? Well you do now! The Wine and Cheese Fest is taking place at Seaworks in Williamstown – over 60 fine quality wine, cheese and groumet food providores will showcase their wares, there’ll be live musicDJs, and masterclasses.
From 11am – 6pm, more details www.wineandcheesefest.com.au
RACING: Whether you’re heading out to Flemington over the Cup Carnival, or just getting into spirit, the only place to be seen at the end of each race day is The Deck at Circa. They host exclusive ‘Winners’ Circle Spring Racing After Parties at one of Melbourne’s most glamourous venues (lap pool, anyone?) and they’re open to VIP guest, race day attendees and the general public, but you’ll need to RSVP.

YOUNG GUNS ON THE RUN: How much fun does this sound!?! Young Guns of Wine UNCUT is a winemaker’s crawl between some of Fitzroy’s best pubs. Basically, 30 of Australia’s most cutting edge winemakers ( with around 60 wines) will across the three venues for one afternoon – that’s Fitzroy Town Hall Hotel, Harry & Frankie at the Rose, and Marquis of Lorne. Great value too – running from 3-6pm, tickets to Young Gun of Wine UNCUT are $45, and this includes a gift Riedel wineglass to take home.
