3AW host Shane McInnes has delivered three reasons why the state government should consider 50 cent fares on public transport.

Under the current Myki system, a daily commute costs $10.60, and McInnes thinks “people are never going to change their transport habits unless the public transport cost in this city is seriously looked at”.

Professor of Public Transport, Department of Civil Engineering at Monash University, Graham Currie, said cheaper transport is “very possible” in Victoria, but depends on politics and whether an election is nearby.

“We could do it overnight,” Professor Currie said on 3AW Drive.
