Attacks on taxi drivers are on the rise, according to new data released on Thursday.

Director of the Victorian Taxi Association Peter Valentine has several theories behind the escalation of violence against drivers.

“Unfortunately we have a level of aggression in the city which has risen,” Mr Valentine told Ross and Russ on 3AW Breakfast.

“In addition, we have all these unregistered taxis being independents and not working with a network.”
