Sneaky new rubbish taxes are adding to the rising cost of living for many Victorians.

Almost 60 per cent of Victorian councils have hiked waste charges by more than five per cent on July 1, and a quarter have lifted waste charges by more than 10 per cent. On top of rubbish rates, some councils have also introduced a new annual waste charge.

Council Watch president Kelvin Granger says “it’s just another cost to ratepayers that they can ill afford”.
