The reason there were eight train cancellations on a busy line this morning

COVID-19 has been blamed for causing commuter chaos on the Frankston line on Tuesday morning.

A total of eight services between Frankston and Flinders Street (in both directions) were cancelled due to driver shortages.

Metro Trains chief Catherine Baxter told Neil Mitchell as many as 30 drivers were unavailable due to COVID-related issues.

“There is also general sickness, as well,” she said.

Ms Baxter apologised to commuters for the inconvenience.

“Despite our best efforts, there will be cancellations,” she said.
