The ‘radical approach’ involving two states which could see 2026 Comm Games stay in Australia
The mayors of Gold Coast and Perth are exploring jointly hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games following Victoria’s withdrawal earlier this year.
The bid, which is backed by the country’s richest person Gina Rinehart, would see the event split across two states over roughly a two-week period.
Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas said a “radical approach” was needed to ensure the Games are still held in Australia.

“Desperate times (call) for desperate measures,” he said on 3AW Breakfast with Ross and Russ.
“It is going to take something unorthodox or perhaps a racial approach to get these games held full stop, let alone in Australia.
“I think it’s all a little bit embarrassing for us as a nation.”
