Leigh Matthews has his suspicions about a “quite strange” comment made by AFL CEO Andrew Dillon’s wife Amanda shortly before Monday night’s Brownlow count.

Amanda Dillon was interviewd on Channel 7’s red carpet coverage, appearing to rule out Marcus Bontempelli as a medal contender, a comment which caught plenty of people off guard.

“It was an off-the-cuff comment,” Leigh said on Wide World of Sports.

“I suspect she had heard something from Andrew (Dillon), it was really quite strange.”

Carlton’s Patrick Cripps went on to win his second Brownlow Medal, polling a record 45 votes.
