There have been 17 shootings in Victoria so far this year and a member of Victoria Police Crime Command says there’s a “quite clear” problem.

This week alone, two people have been killed in shootings — one in Fitzr0y yesterday and another in Noble Park on Monday.

Neither shooting is believed to be linked to previous shootings, or to organised crime.

Detective Superintendent Paul O’Hallaran says “quite clearly” there are too many guns in the community.

“There are a number of guns obviously in the hands of people who shouldn’t have them,” he told Neil Mitchell.
