The push to ‘unlock’ the inner suburbs of Melbourne for middle income earners
CEO of Infrastructure Victoria, Jonathan Spear, has launched a push to “unlock” the inner suburbs of Melbourne, Geelong and Ballarat for middle income earners who want to move in from the outer fringe.
Infrastructure Victoria have released a report stating one in five Victorians would give up living in a detached home for a quality townhouse or three bedroom apartment closer to the city, but Mr Spear claims they’re “locked out of that choice at the moment”.

“Middle income earners and first home buyers have very little choice in reality as to where they can buy a home,” Mr Spear told Neil Mitchell.
“We have an opportunity to change the policy settings we have in Victoria, so that people have a choice about where they want to live.”
