CEO of Youth Affairs Council Victoria, Katherine Ellis, has called on the federal government to raise the rates of JobSeeker and Youth Allowance ahead of next month’s federal budget.

The JobSeeker payment is only $50 a day currently with Ms Ellis wanting an increase to $76, whilst Youth Allowance is even less at $40 a day and she also wants it raised to $76.

Ms Ellis believes the federal government can’t treat this as a “blanket situation” but Tom Elliott claims there is “no way in the world” the rates will be lifted next month.
