The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia is calling for the introduction of a $5000 superannuation baby bonus.

Martin Fahy, Chief Executive of ASFA, said it was designed to address the gender gap when it comes to super.

“It’s been a longstanding issue and that’s what this measure is designed to address,” he said.

He said for every four dollars a man retired with, a woman retired with three.

“This doesn’t solve the problem, but what it tries to do is address some of the outcomes of women having lower balances,” Mr Fahy said.
