Tom Elliott has voiced his concerns on the proposed misinformation and disinformation laws, stating the federal government is trying to “curb freedom of speech”.

The proposed laws would give the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) the power to monitor online platforms to provide recommendations of what is true and what is false and may cause harm on those platforms.

“I hope this doesn’t get through the parliament,” the 3AW Mornings host said.

Director of Queensland University of Technology’s Digital Media Research Centre, Professor Daniel Angus, then fired up at Tom Elliott, accusing the host of pumping “harmful bile” down the airwaves.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about here,” Professor Angus told Tom Elliott.
