Pro-Palestine protesters are planning on “crashing” the Myer Christmas Windows at the Bourke Street Mall this weekend, with Tom Elliott grilling the organiser of the protest on the motivations behind it.

The 3AW Mornings host told organiser Amy that she and other protesters will upset a lot of kids, but Amy claims there will only be singing, dancing and blowing bubbles.

“We have no intention of damaging any windows,” Amy said.

“These are little kids, and you are going to upset their enjoyment!” Tom Elliott told Amy.

The 3AW Mornings host then urged parents who are intending to bring their kids into the CBD on Sunday to “look out” for the protesters.

“Bring out the water cannon, that’s what I say,” he said.

Victoria Police have since released a statement on the planned protest:

Victoria Police is aware a group of protestors is planning on disrupting the unveiling of the Myer Christmas Windows on Sunday.

We have repeatedly requested they do not do this however the group is not co-operating with police.

The Myer Christmas Windows are an important tradition in Melbourne’s calendar, with families from across Victoria coming into the city to see them.

While we always respect the right for people to protest peacefully, we are clear that this should be done without impacting the broader community.

Victoria Police will have a visible presence on Sunday and will continue to attempt to engage with the group in question.

It is important to make clear a separate rally planned for later in the day has changed its usual route due to the Myer Christmas Windows and will not walk through Bourke Street.
