The prescription change that would save Aussies $180 a year
There are calls to make a simple change to medical prescriptions which would save Australians money, save the government money and free up doctors appointments.
The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) is pushing for the number of medicines a person can collect with each prescription from one month to two months’ supply, and is also calling for 12 month supplies on a single script, rather than six.
President of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, Dr Nicole Higgins, told Ross and Russel it’s “what’s best for patients and it’s also part of a bigger health reform — it costs less for the government, which means it costs less for the taxpayer”.

The Australian Medical Association, the consumer health lobby and independent MP Monique Ryan are backing the push, but it’s expected to be met by resistance from pharmacists.
It’s expected the change could save Australians up to $180 a year.
