The behaviour of many Australian parents is causing kids to miss out on getting enough physical activity and limiting their ability to “develop … as a person”.

A world-first study by Deakin University found Australian parents are among the most risk-averse in the world.

Professor Lisa Barnett from Deakin University’s school of health and social development says “if everything is super safe, kids don’t have that opportunity to test themselves and test their boundaries and work out what they can do and what they can’t do, and then you have kids who don’t really understand their own abilities”.
