It’s been revealed that Yarra Council spent nearly $200,000 on artwork and almost $40,000 for a single swing in a park “upgrade” which saw the park labelled “Melbourne’s saddest playground”.

Cambridge Street Reserve was “upgraded” in October, with a full playground removed and replaced with a single swing, some exercise bars, and “an overpriced $200,000 hills hoist sculpture”.

Yarra Residents Collective spokesperson, Adam Promnitz, told 3AW’s Heidi Murphy it’s “completely outrageous” and the cost of the overhaul only came to light after residents submitted a freedom of information request.
