A major shake up will see specific highly-skilled immigrants from science, technology, and cyber security, receive a visa within seven days, which would normally take up to a year under the current system.

Former Immigration Department deputy secretary and expert in immigration and population, Abul Rivzi, says the new plan includes things he considers reasonable.

“The two things I would say about the plan is, why did it take so long? Really, this was needed six to twelve months ago, it’s great we have it, but it’s late,” he told Jimmy Bartel and Mark Allen, filling in for Ross and Russel.
