The Lord Mayor is pushing an upgrade for the south end of Elizabeth Street
City Council’s about to vote on a plan which will see the ‘seedy’ end of Elizabeth Street undergo a major revamp.
Part of the plan would see southbound cars banned and the area between Flinders Lane and Flinders Street re-designed, making it far more pedestrian friendly.
Lord Mayor Robert Doyle is pushing the overhaul, describing the precinct as Melbourne’s shameful ‘ugly duckling’.
Ross and John spoke with Socrates who runs a donut shop in the area.
Walker’s Donuts has been on Elizabeth Street for 10 years.
‘I think it’s being changed for the good.’
‘I think it’s important, people come here from all over the world.’ ? Socrates told 3AW Breakfast.
