The Greens are calling on the Victorian Labor Government to use its powers under the Essential Services Commission Act to declare supermarkets a regulated industry and regulate supermarket prices.

Tom Elliott thinks this is an “extraordinary new policy” by the Greens.

“I just don’t see how in a modern market economy, the government can step in and tell the supermarkets what to charge for things,” the 3AW Mornings host.

Victorian Greens economic justice spokesperson, Sam Tibbins, who Tom Elliott thinks is “one of the few sensible Greens”, then tried to explain how the policy would work.
