The enormous impact an extra 10 minutes of deep sleep a night can have on health
Just five to 10 extra minutes of deep sleep per night can have a huge impact on a person’s health, a new Melbourne study reveals.
The study found a loss of one per cent of deep sleep per year may increase dementia risk by 27 per cent among those aged 60 years or older.
Associate professor of neurology and psychology at Monash University, Matthew Pase, says as people age they spend less time in the deeper, more restorative stages of sleep, so establishing good sleep routines early in life is important.
