The ‘disheartening trend’ women tradies are facing
Women in trades are shortening their names to appear more masculine as employers hesitate to consider them for roles.
Chief executive and founder of Empowered Women in Trades, Hacia Atherton, says the “disheartening trend” means some aspiring female tradies haven’t been able to interview for apprenticeships.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re a girl, or a guy, or non-binary person, if you’re good at the trade, you’re good at the trade,” she told Jimmy Bartel and Mark Allen, filling in for Ross and Russ.
