A doctor from Health Weight Australia has outlined some concerning statistics surrounding obesity in Australia, after a global study found 31 per cent of Australians believe they are overweight or obese.

Dr Viraj Kariyawasam, stated out of 45 to 80 year old’s in Australia, 80 per cent are overweight and 40 per cent are obese, which astounded Tom Elliott.

Dr Kariyawasam also outlined what needs to change in Australian culture in order to reduce obesity.

“People are made to go and shop for things, not to talk to physicians and get advice on how to address it, which is what needs to change,” Dr Kariyawasam told Tom Elliott.
