Big changes are coming to speed limits on the Eastern Freeway for the next five years, the state government announced on Monday.

Speeds will be reduced to 80 kilometres per hour during the day, while those travelling on the freeway at night will only be able to go 40 kilometres an hour.

It’s all because of continuing works on the North East Link, which is slated for completed in 2028.

“The Eastern Freeway carries 140,000 motorists a day,” Neil Mitchell said on 3AW Mornings.

“I would’ve thought the 40 kilometres an hour at night is a bit of a pain.”
