In an Australian-first trial, electric vehicle chargers will be installed on suburban power poles, giving motorists better access to quick top charging.

CitiPower, Powercor and United Energy are involved in installing the chargers, starting in Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula and Geelong.

Head of network energy services Dan Bye says the initial plan is to install 100 charges.

“As more and more Victorians are embracing EVs, which is fantastic, they’re needing access to plentiful and reliable and cheaper charging equipment, in locations that are more convenient to them,” Mr Bye said on 3AW Breakfast.
