Australian San Francisco 49ers punter Mitch Wishnowsky says he’s determined to fully appreciate his second chance at competing in a Super Bowl.

The Perth-born 31-year-old will on Monday (AEDT) attempt to become the first Aussie to win a Super Bowl, having already competed in the NFL’s ultimate showpiece once before.

Ahead of the match in Las Vegas, he told Shane McInnes just how highly he values his upbringing as an Australian.

“(My heritage) means a lot of lot,” he told 3AW.

“In my first year – it was something I didn’t even reflect on. But now thinking about where I’m from and what it means to be Australian…once I had a kid, you start to think about parts of (myself) which are Australian and what I want (to teach her).”
