Are you ever scrolling Uber Eats and thinking, “I just want to be able to walk through all these restaurants and decide what I want”.
That’s essentially what EziStreat is.
Do you know what a dark kitchen is? It’s a kitchen without any restaurant attached that generally operates for deliveries only. They’ve used that model and taken influence from Japanese laneways.
There’s a great outdoor area, a huge drinks fridge with loads of international beers and plenty of seating room. Much like Melbourne is generally, the different cuisines are from all different origins with an Asian snack section toward the front.
There’s currently six restaurants to choose from, at other times there’s more. So, you use QR codes to order from whichever restaurant takes your fancy (or multiple) if you feel like a smorgasbord of cuisines, then, when your food is ready you get a text. Choosing from any of the open plan seating options you can find yourself a seat and hoof in, there’s also a takeaway choice too. It is like the convenience of food courts but swap out the greasy fast food with amazing food from all around Melbourne.
I made sure to try something from each restaurant to get a good feel for the offerings. Within 10 minutes of ordering from all different windows I had texts and was making my way around picking up all my choices.
From Jymmanuel which is Taiwanese comfort food, I got crispy devil fried chicken which was a huge piece of fried chicken, as big as my head. It was so crunchy and had a slight sweetness and saltiness to the seasoning. I also had the pan fried chicken and prawn dumplings which were so moreish, there was a slight broth when you bit in so be careful – but so delicious.
From Soi Thai we got a banging, white pepper heavy Pad See Ew. You can have your choice of protein on top and how spicy you like it all from the link which makes it so easy to adjust each dish to exactly how you like it.
From Berbeo Bros which is Colombian street food, I had the empanadas (imagine South American samosa) which was paired with a delicious trio sauce of Perajo sauce (Parsley, garlic, chilly and lemon juice sauce), Guisonesa sauce (mayonnaise, guiso sauce and lemon juice) and tomatoes. I also tried the Quesada which is chargrilled corn bread topped with stracciatella cheese … um, hello!
From Captain Cook’d which is burgers and Asian fusion. I tried their simplest burger, their smash cheeseburger. It was everything a burger should be, fluffy but structurally sound bun, juicy patty, appropriate sauce distribution, pickles, onions.
And for dessert, Sulbing cafe which is Korean desserts I tried two flavours of Bingsu! Described on Google as; a milk-based Korean shaved ice dessert with sweet toppings that may include chopped fruit, condensed milk, fruit syrup. I tried the Oreo and pine mango flavour, I was a big fan of both but the cheesecake bits in the bottom of the pine mango really tickled me.
I am someone who struggles with food indecision at all times, this is like the antidote to food indecision. The price point is obviously varied but it was definitely on the lower side, I found it a cheap eat. Pad See Ew was only $16 for a full serve, fried chicken the size of my face was only $11, Banh Mi was $12 and a simple burger was $13.
Depending on what you wanted you could easily walk out with a full meal for under $20.
