One in two Australians has had phone or internet issues in the last year.

And according to the industry ombudsman, telcos are to blame.

It is being reported that 10 million Australians have experienced issues, and more than half of small businesses have had problems in the past year.

One quarter of issues took more than four months to fix.

Telecommunications industry ombudsman Judi Jones told Neil Mitchell the findings of their survey paint a damning picture of the telcos and their ability to handle complaints.

“It’s across the board: billing faults, customer service, everything,” Ms Jones said.

Ms Jones said complaints had been on the decline, but have been increasing in the past two years.

Neil said it sounds like our telecommunications network is “third world”.
