Teens rob 87-year-old on mobility scooter in Langwarrin

An 87-year-old woman has been robbed by a group of teenage boys as she rode on her mobility scooter in Langwarrin.

Police say a group of six to eight teenage boys surrounded the woman on Southgate Way and “asked” for some money for breakfast at about 10.30am last Thursday.

The woman took out her purse to offer them some change.

But one of the boys snatched the purse and a $100 note, then struggled with the victim as she tried to retrieve her belongings.

The Langwarrin woman, who was shaken by the incident, reported the matter to police over the weekend.

“Naturally, she’s distraught,” Detective Senior Constable Jason Hamilton-Smith.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have been driving in the area at the time to come forward.
