Teenage girl critical after being hit by truck in Mitcham

A teenage girl is in a critical condition after being hit by a truck in Mitcham.

The truck driver did not stop after the incident at the intersection of Heatherdale Road and Moroondah Highway shortly after 7am.

Moroondah Highway is closed out-bound, and Heatherdale Road is closed in both directions.

Police have been told the young woman was walking south across Whitehorse Road and the truck was travelling south on Dampier Grove.

It was turning left onto Maroondah Highway when the girl was struck.

Police are appealing for the driver to come forward.

Nunawading Highway Patrol officers are searching for a brown Light truck which was last seen heading east on the Maroondah Highway.
