Taxi passenger forced to take the wheel after driver lost consciousness
A taxi passenger has been forced to pull the handbrake after his driver passed out twice on the Tullamarine Freeway.
The 43-year-old passenger from Queensland grabbed a cab from the Airport to his Southbank hotel on Monday night.
Police say the driver, a 24-year-old from Wyndham Vale, lost consciousness on the Tullamarine Freeway – crashing into some concrete bollards.
While the men weren’t injured, the driver has tried to soldier on, but again lost consciousness.
The passenger decided it was the right move to take over the wheel.
He drove himself and the cabbie to the City Road hotel, before calling police around 10pm.
The cab driver is expected to be charged on summons with a range of traffic offences.
It’s unsure is the passenger ended up paying his fare, but given the circumstances … I’m sure they can let this one ride.
