Swanston St spared Metro Rail Tunnel mayhem

The Andrews government has announced Swanston Street will not have to dug up to build the Melbourne Metro Rail tunnel.

Instead of building the tunnel via the ‘cut and cover’ method, the authority has found a way to build the tunnel mainly underground.

Transport minister Jacinta Allan is outlined the details at a press conference this morning.

She says it will allow trams and traffic to continue to run during the build.
